THE SEASON OF PERPETUAL HOPE? What a fucking joke!

I truly hate the sodding Yuletide. Hel, I hate the whole damn winter season. Joyful, my arse! Dealing with snow and darkness and people with the blooming winter blues for half the year. Yeah, that’s positively delightful! Oh, and why are we celebrating midwinter now, anyway? It’s not the middle of the blasted winter yet.

It’s New Year’s Eve in Sundsvall, a northern seaside city in Sweden. Edda, who’s been through the wringer over the past two years, has hit rock bottom. Her sister, Angel, decides to stage an intervention to break the negative cycle. Convinced a few drinks and a decent shag can cure most evils, she drags a reluctant Edda to The Palace, the fancy downtown nightclub where they both work.

This is the last of the Yuletide season’s parties and the place is packed with homecomers on the prowl for a joyride. And, of course, the locals have come out to mingle and play. As people’s pasts, presents and futures seem to collide in the crowded nightclub, a traumatised Edda takes refuge in the darkest corner of the basement cocktail bar to escape it all. And that’s where Horse, the President of Fenrir’s Cubbies, finds her…

EDDA is something of an enigma. Horse says that she’s otherworldly and that she looks like a changeling. But it’s not just her looks that set her apart from other people. Her behaviour and the way she speaks are different too. Something is going on inside that head of hers, and she’s terrified of letting anyone know what it is. Terrified of ending up all alone if her secret gets out.

ANGEL is Edda’s chosen sister and she’s been her self-appointed bodyguard since the first time they met in her grandmother’s haybarn in Hängsta. Something happened that day. Something that made a ten-year-old girl swear a blood oath in a language she didn’t even know she knew. Something she’s never told a living soul. She hasn’t even talked to Edda about it, and she was there. And yet, she wasn’t. Angel has kept her oath, and Edda’s secret, for 18 years now, but the time may have come for her to break her oath. Or to find an ally to share her burden with.

HORSE is Edda’s complete opposite. He’s the order to her chaos, the square peg to her round hole and the logic to her emotion. A successful breeder of rare coldbloods, he has an eye for the extraordinary and the skills to handle even the most flight prone horses. Used to get what he wants, he claims ownership of Edda the moment he sets eyes on her. She’s not as easily roped in as he would’ve expected though. Something is holding her back, and Horse is hellbent on getting to the root of the problem one way or the other…

I hope you will tag along on this adventure and look forward to hearing from you in the comment sections!
