࿐ ࿔*˖𓇼 DESCRIPTION 𓇼˖*࿔࿐

When time itself starts to die, reality becomes negotiable.

Jeremiah Jesus hates Germany, so when two American strangers offer him a ride to Switzerland and a chance to see CERN’s supercollider, he jumps at the chance to escape. But what should be a simple road trip turns deadly when an unknown assailant forces their car off the road.

George, a young physicist working on experimental atomic clocks, has discovered something disturbing: time doesn’t run the same everywhere. His measurements are exposing cracks in reality, and someone is willing to kill to keep that knowledge buried.

As the assassination attempts mount and the body count rises, Jeremiah is caught between groundbreaking science and ancient powers. And when time is dying, the only way to survive is to bend reality to your will.

Time Is Dying is the first tale in a new series of weird fiction from the darker corners of Devil.

࿐ ࿔*˖𓇼 EXCERPT 𓇼˖*࿔࿐

Time is dying. That was the last thought I had before I headed below deck to look for a blanket. I couldn’t find one, so I’ve been tearing up cushions instead to have something to pack around me if I can find a corner to bed down in. It’s a moonless night, and I’m all alone on a powerless boat amid Lac Léman. It occurs to me that I’ve made some poor life decisions in the past 24 hours.

My name is Jeremiah Jesus and last night I was in Germany trying hard to drink myself to sleep. I’m what my aunt, Mama Grace, used to politely call swarthy, which was her way of saying that my daddy was Mexican. I’m not ugly or pretty, tall or short, thin or large. Aside from my hawkish nose, I’m pretty indistinct.

In Europe, I’m often mistaken for Greek, so I was speaking in a Greek-accented German, which was getting progressively worse as the night went on. Fortunately, when I totally blanked on what to say, I just recited some poetry in French, which everyone seemed to think was hilarious. God, I fucking hate Germany.

Every single time I’ve been there, it’s gone badly. And by badly, I mean the kind of experience that, just being in the same nation, makes me want to get blackout drunk to calm my nerves. Mama Grace would have said I have history there, and history has a bad habit of repeating itself.

So, why go to Germany if I hate it so much? Money, of course. A lot of money.

★★★★★ Loved it!
Couldn’t put this down! The physics stuff is fascinating without being overwhelming, and Jeremiah’s voice kept me hooked from start to finish.

★★★★★ Brilliant debut
Holy cow, this was good! The whole concept of time dying is fascinating and Jeremiah is a cynical but compelling narrator. More please!

★★★★☆ Atmospheric and strange
Perfect blend of noir and weird science in a European setting that feels authentic. Some plot points could have been clearer, but the overall atmosphere more than makes up for it. Looking forward to more Jeremiah Jesus stories.

★★★☆☆ Solid start to a promising series
Interesting premise and good writing. The science elements were cool, but it felt a bit rushed. Hope there will be more character development in the next one.

★★☆☆☆ Not my genre
Well written I suppose, but the science parts went over my head and I don’t really like weird fiction.
