Join the Crew of The Resilience 🏴☠️
Hej Messmate!
Welcome aboard The Resilience – my semi-sentient metafictional pirate ship. She’s an opinionated old lady who has become the creative home for a procrastination of indie authors and the portal to our literary worlds.
Our crew is made up of a merry band of rebels. Together, we’re sailing the stormy seas of Concordia in an ongoing adventure that blends storytelling with entrepreneurship, and creativity with sustainability. Whether on sea or ashore at our home port in Libertalia, we’re on a mission to prove that independent creators can build something truly meaningful where heart and grit matter more than budgets and corporate buzzwords.
We’re running a small but mighty independent press that publishes very real books, builds games from the worlds we create, and produces arts and crafts in our Quarterdeck Studio. Our Digital Shipwrites Guild is also branching out to develop an immersive Resilience app, and we recently opened a merch shop on Etsy.
All our operations are based on the principle that our creative business should be as engaging as the stories we tell. We are a small, scrappy lot held together by the belief that the best adventures happen when you’re willing to figure things out as you go.
Life Aboard the Ship
Sailing with us means embracing the whimsy of the metafictional pirate life while understanding that behind all the creative chaos, we’re building something real and sustainable. We may not believe in corporate nonsense, but we absolutely believe in treating people fairly, communicating clearly, and – like any author worth their salt – delivering on the promise of our premise.
We value:
- Clarity: Every role comes with detailed instructions, templates, and SOPs. No guesswork or mind-reading required.
- Fairness: We may not have the overflowing coffers of a corporate fleet, but we believe in paying fairly for the work and region, and in treating every crew mate with respect.
- Reliability: If we say a post will go out on Thursday, it does. We don’t feed people to the Kraken for missing a deadline, but we can’t guarantee the Snurkleblatt won’t spray you with purple ink.
- Creativity: In the right place. Some tasks are about following the map exactly; others may invite you to help steer the ship. We always strive to be clear about which is which.
Our Crew Culture
In the real world, we’re spread across different time zones, so everything aboard works asynchronously. There’s no clocking in or hovering over shoulders, but we do have a Discord server, clear deadlines, and the trust that people will deliver what they promised or let us know if they’re temporarily shipwrecked.
We keep our tools simple because life’s complicated enough as it is. Shared Google Drive folders, basic spreadsheets, and clear communication. No one needs to master elaborate software ecosystems just to do their jobs.
The vibe is friendly and straightforward. We love our pirate core, ship’s humour, and a bit of creative chaos, but we balance the fun with actually getting things done. We’re professional pirates, donchaknow.
Who Thrives Here
The crew members who thrive here are the ones who read “semi-sentient pirate ship” and think “brilliant!” rather than “bonkers.” We appreciate the creative flair and playful branding, but can also follow a detailed instruction sheet without hand-holding and constant check-ins.
We need reliable communicators – people who hit their deadlines and speak up clearly when something needs to change. And honestly? We need folks who care about doing small tasks well, because I built this ship in baby steps and daily bite-sized portions.
Every Instagram post, video, and organised folder is part of something bigger. Something we’re building together.
Why Join Us?
When you work with us, you become part of our crew. You get to work with something that blends art and enterprise, fantasy and function – a scrappy operation that’s punching well above its weight and building something genuinely unique.
We’re transparent about who and where we are: A small indie business that pays competitive rates for the work and region, with real growth potential as we expand. What we lack in corporate budgets, we make up for in treating people fairly and building something you can actually be proud to be part of.
If that sounds like your kind of adventure – and you can appreciate a good sea shanty while hitting your deadlines – we’d love to have you aboard. Bring your skills, your sense of humour, and maybe a spare eyepatch.
