Goodness mateys! I do apologise for the early and not-quite-perfected release of this newsletter! If you just clicked an earlier version in your inbox, you might have noticed that it – gasp! – still had last month’s cocktail recipe photo!
Well, it’s all been fixed now. Suffice it to say, the Cap’ns been forcibly put to bed in her cabin to sleep off the results of a little foray into the Quartermaster’s rum rations when he was off chasing an errant snurkleblatt he picked up off the coast of Libertalia. We’ll not mention this little mishap when she comes round, eh? Pressures of leadership and all… 😉
It’s the perfect time of year to curl up with a good book and an indulgent tipple! Pop the kettle on, settle down and let me help you with that…
BELLE’S MUSINGS IN OCTOBER 2024
As I type this, schoolchildren in China are on vacation for “Golden Week,” which officially celebrates the founding of The People’s Republic of China on October 1st 1949.* Unofficially, for me and for a good number of ex-pats, it also marked a truly golden week of perfect weather: sunny days still stretched just long enough for evening walks, trees (Beijing has many more than you might imagine, including its signature weeping willows…

TIME FOR A TIPPLE
A hark back to my days in Asia for this month’s rather classy cocktail, though I sadly never made it to Japan! Maybe next year! This cocktail’s a chic new take on an old favourite, and just the thing for darker nights and brighter lights. One warning – most of the cocktails I share with you taste like sweeties. This one’s much more grown up and closer to the taste of a traditional martini.

If you’ve spent the whole newsletter yelling, “WHAT ABOUT HALLOWE’EN FOR HEAVENS’ SAKE? YOU’VE BARELY EVEN MENTIONED IT AND YOU’RE SUPPOSED TO BE A HORROR WRITER, IN CASE YOU’VE FORGOTTEN!” fret not! I’ll be back on the 30th to ply you with pumpkins, batter you with bats, and generally vamp it up in style. First rule of the party season, dahhhhling – don’t peak too early!
In the meantime, I’ll leave you in the Cap’s capable (once sober!) hands – like I said, she’s got some exciting news for you! (Including a new release from the Resilience’s Quartermaster, if you’re in the mood for something a little more spicy – and I don’t mean pumpkin latte!) Always assuming he makes it back from his snurkleblatt hunting on time!
